24 FUSI ORARI
“24 Fusi orari” is an interactive light installation.
Timezones are a convention used to divide the Earth's surface, for the purpose of measuring time, since 1884.
Although timezones are just a convention, they have a huge impact on our daily lives. When it is dinner time in Italy, it is four a.m. in Havana, and everyone there is already sleeping.
In this interactive installation, timezones serve as a metaphor to discuss the different lifestyles existing among countries due to varying levels of technological development.
Thanks to easy access to technology, some countries live in the future, while others struggle to get internet connection.
The two globes are activated by the same input but receive it differently; one gets electricity quickly and properly, while the other gets electricity later and with glitches.
The input is given through a sensor that detects the presence of the beholder.
