1012, IL SOFFIO DI CALIMA
“"1012-Il soffio di Calima” (The Blow of Calima) is an interactive audiovisual installation about the natural phenomenon called “Calima.”
Calima is the wind rising from the Sahara, which transports sand grains all over the world. In this way, the sand of the Sahara reaches distant environments and interacts with them.
It has been discovered that Sahara sand grains fertilize the Amazon rainforest, whose soil is extremely dry and too poor to nourish its plants. The wind of Calima creates and reveals one of the invisible connections that our world is made of.
Through the use of a microphone sensor, able to detect the frequency of a person blowing, the installation aims to recreate this natural phenomenon. At the beginning, the user will see a particle system representing the sandstorm Calima; after the interaction, the visual will slowly and smoothly transform into geometric shapes, metaphorically representing the plants of the Amazon.
The user becomes the wind of the narrative, reminding us of the power of individual actions.
Blowing is a small action, very similar to breathing.
Blowing is a small action, and like every small action, it has great power.
